The first thing to realise, however, is that Bersarin Quartett is not a quartet, it’s Thomas.

Thomas “who” we don’t quite know, as in the rush to bestow gushing praise someone has forgotten to declare the composer’s full name. At least we know that Bersarin Quartet is not a quartet, just one man and a computer predominantly feeding from orchestral string samples.

Ten, occasionally lengthy, tracks are on offer, and I would agree that the music has a filmic, soundtrack quality. The opening tracks immediately offer a relaxing cacophony of string sounds, swaying gently back and forth like a restful tide. There’s very little ambition in the arrangements, however, once a track has set its stall using a particular string melody, the music tends to wander aimlessly, interspersed by sampled effects, sprinkles of piano and an occasionally heavy handed break beat.
